One Way Link Building Madness
September 9th, 2008Link Building has been a goal of any website owner that wants to see their site appear in the natural results of the search engines. One way link building versus link exchange is ideal for better SEO results. The madness begins with attempting to create links to your site and you realize there is so much information and so many options out there. Where to start and what if you spend all this time trying to increase online traffic and you end up failing? This can be madening and will turn your precious time and money into wasted time and money.
Weather you are going to do link building on your own or hire someone to do it, you should understand some very important basics.
The (rel=”nofollow“) Issue
This “nofollow” rule was created to tell the search engines that thety can’t follow a link from their site to whom ever they are linking to. Many people do this in link exchange programs because they know many people will not know how to find this code and they can then trick the search engines and you into gaining one way links. They will for sure increase their online traffic while you suffer “wasted time”.
What you can do is learn to right click on a site and “view source” and do an “alt f” and look for the “nofollow” command. By doing this you are providing yourself an invaluable service. This may be time consuming, but in the end it is time well spent.
The Fake Link Exchange Page (if you are going to use this method, beware!)
This is down right dirty and rotten! People buy into some program to manage link exchanges between them and other sites. When people submit their links many times they will see their site is now linked on the other persons site. But is it a link page accepted by the search engines? Is their link page connected to their main site?
Well, what I have found is if you go to the persons home page and look for the link from their to their link exchange page that it usually is not there. You make all this effort to share a link only to get no results in return. Again, take the time to research before placing that link or letting another company do this for you. Make sure if you pay someone for this type of linking that they know you understand and will not tolerate wasted links.
Most Blogs Site Have the “nofollow” rule
Many people have been taking advantage of building links from blog comments. The biggest player is wordpress and by default they have a nofollow rule for any comments. This makes the task an even bigger challenge because now you have to search through tons of blogs just to find ones that let you leave comments and then to find those that allow links.
Since many bloggers are not web masters they don’t even realize this is needed. So my suggestion is to first check the site to make sure it allows a link. If the site has the nofollow rule try to contact them and suggest they add this plugin:
“remove no follow” Plugin. This will allow them to accept links properly.
Natural One Way Link Building
Here are is a concept others know as “link baiting”. This method usually requires a well written article and a savoy person to distribute this article all over the web. The hope is that many will love it, bookmark it and link to it.
Well, if you haven’t noticed there are not many articles really that exciting to link to that relate to most business concepts, usually the most interesting are world news related and won’t have anything to do with your site, your products and your offerings.
So, what to do? Well, here is an idea. Give something away that will cause others to use what you offer and naturally give a link back or link to you letting others know what you are giving away.
Now, I am not saying to give away free products or services that you offer, in this online market that can be dangerous and a money killer. What I suggest is to give something away that many people are looking for on the net! Give away templates, better yet, give away WordPress Templates. This will require you contact a compoany who knows how to do this effectively. I recommend “http://www.themespluginswp.com” as a source to have a professional team put together a nice cool wordpress theme with your link in the footer as the contributer of the theme. They will then submit it to about 10 sites that give away free themes including WordPress.org.
The results for this type of setup is great, because it gets downloaded 100′s of times and has a link back to your site.
Additional Link Building Ideas
Other ideas are to use Videos to help build links, create social network accounts, bookmark to social bookmarking site & find sites that are related to yours and see what kind of offer you can make to get your link on their site somehow.
